Community of Csantaver, Voivodina

I was sent to Csantaver in August of 2007 by Msgr.dr. Janos Penzes. As a parish priest I am trying to pay attention to all youngsters and elders with love.
In this village of about 8,000 people, Providence put me in touch with a lot of hard-working and good-natured people who have serious financial troubles. I admire the youngsters and adults, who know the dread of war and its consequences and hardships. Still, they do not give up hope, but are trying to make at least the future generation's lives better and more livable.
I am working on uplifting the children of my Bible class, trying to guide them towards permanent value along with my religious education teacher and a couple of creative people. In this sense, besides the Bible classes, we also organize them present-making workshops, singing lessons, playing hours in the afternoon to tear them away from the television and computer.
We would like to visit older people with smaller groups of them, have handcraft workshops, or to expand knowledge in Bible studies and other forums as well. We used to walk to the river bank of Csiker, where we sang and played enthusiastically. We want to enrich these children with memories like this, regardless of their families' financial background.
I am happy for the experience that the organizers of the "Alliance for Life" summer camp in Csobanka provide our students with the possibility of camping each year. In these summer camps, as well as in the summer camps of Tothfalu and Doroszlo, in Voivodina the children can have memories and experiences that they can use later during their lives.
We are also working on reviving the life of the Christian youngsters in the region with my congregation and a civil organization named "Faklya" ("Torch") that operates in Voivodina and is based in Szabadka. Together with the enthusiastic group of Faklya, we also organize a Christian retreat for youngsters a couple times a year, Christian retreat days for smaller children and for youngsters separately, mass for youngsters monthly, guitar summer camps, and costume balls for carnival, etc. The main goal of Faklya is to draw the children and the youngsters closer to God with the help of each event.
